Police rescue Israeli tourist after serious fall on Ausangate – Vinicunca route

Police rescue Israeli tourist after serious fall on Ausangate - Vinicunca route

Once again, the demanding geography of the Vilcanota mountain range put the security forces of the imperial region to the test. Israeli hiker Elad Yaakov (25 years old) was successfully rescued by the Peruvian National Police (PNP) after suffering a serious accident on the high-altitude route connecting the imposing Ausangate mountain with the famous Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), in the province of Quispicanchi.

The incident occurred on Friday, June 12, 2026. Upon receiving the alert, agents from the Quispicanchi DIVOPUS (belonging to the Quiquijana National Police Command and the Cusipata Rural Police Station) immediately activated a contingency and search plan in the area to locate the foreigner.

A complex evacuation above 4,500 meters

When located by police patrols, the preliminary medical report indicated that Yaakov had a suspected fracture in his right leg. Due to the intense pain and severity of the injury, the young man was completely immobilized and exposed to the region’s freezing temperatures.

The officers proceeded to:

Provide first aid and stabilize the affected limb.

Initiate a long and complex physical evacuation maneuver across steep trails and rugged terrain.

Transport the injured man safely to the district of Pitumarca, where he was finally transferred for medical attention. specialized.

Global Mountain Warning: The circuit that connects Ausangate with Vinicunca is one of the most beautiful but also most demanding treks in Peru, exceeding 4,800 meters in altitude in several sections. Having technical footwear, trekking poles, and, ideally, a local guide, is vital to avoid accidents on loose terrain.

From Global Mountain, we congratulate the agents of Quiquijana and Cusipata for their timely intervention in safeguarding the lives of visitors exploring our Andes. Wishing Elad Yaakov a speedy recovery!
