1st International High Mountain and Helicopter Rescue Course

A milestone in Andean safety: Elite training, real SAR operations, and the creation of permanent aerial rescue infrastructure.

High-Level Training

Organized by the Socorro Andino Peruano Association (S.A.P.), this pioneering event will gather experts from Europe and South America in the Cordillera Blanca.

The goal is to standardize technical rescue protocols and aerial operations in hard-to-access areas, with real practice on Nevado Mateo and the Contrahierba Massif (up to 5,150 m.a.s.l.).

Academic Itinerary

Day1

Fundamentals and WFR

Refresher on Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and remote area first aid. Base: Huaraz.

Day 2-3

Indoor and Rock Technique

Anchor systems, mechanical pulley systems, and self-rescue. Technical review on climbing walls and natural rock.

Day 4

Glacier Maneuvers

Transfer to Nevado Mateo (4,900 m). Progression practice, crevasse rescue, and Kong stretcher handling on ice

Day 5

SAR Helicopter Drill

Comprehensive operation: Evacuation from the summit (5,150 m) and aerial extraction with PNP/FAP support. Official closing. LONG-TERM PROJECT

LONG-TERM PROJECT
Helicopter Rescue Commission

This course lays the foundations for a national objective: the creation of a Specialized Aerial Rescue Unit. S.A.P. proposes a public-private partnership to manage an aircraft capable of flying above 6,600 m.a.s.l., drastically reducing response times in critical emergencies.
