Date: December 17, 2025
Category: News / International Expeditions
The Asociación Socorro Andino Peruano (S.A.P.) proudly announces the upcoming International High-Mountain Expedition in the Republic of Ecuador. This event will bring together a prominent group of 10 mountaineers from the Russian Mountaineering Federation, alongside representatives and guests from Peru, as part of a significant technical exchange and international cooperation program.
Scheduled to take place between late December 2025 and the first days of January 2026, this expedition aims not only to reach some of the most iconic summits of the Ecuadorian Andes but also to strengthen capabilities in mountaineering, safety, and rescue operations in high-altitude volcanic environments.
🌍 International Cooperation at Great Heights
The official invitation was extended on behalf of the President of the Russian Mountaineering Federation, Mr. Andrei Volkov, with the support of the Moscow Mountaineering and Climbing Federation, chaired by Mr. Dmitriy Moskalev.
In this context, Mr. Harry Celestino Cisneros, Senior Advisor to the Regional Council of Ancash, has been invited to join this mission, reflecting the commitment of regional authorities to the development of mountaineering, adventure tourism, and high-mountain safety.
🏔️ Iconic Summits: Cayambe and Chimborazo
The preliminary program includes acclimatization activities in Quito, ascents of Rucu Pichincha, and the two major goals of the expedition:
Nevado Cayambe (5,790 m): The only snow-capped peak in the world crossed by the Equator.
Nevado Chimborazo (6,268 m): The highest mountain in Ecuador and the closest point to the sun from the center of the Earth.
Additionally, the team will visit emblematic locations such as Otavalo and Baños de Agua Santa, blending culture with technical preparation and acclimatization.
🚁 Preparation for the First International S.A.R. Helicopter & Rescue Course
A central pillar of this expedition is its direct contribution to strengthening the organizational capacity for the: “First International Course on High-Mountain Rescue Operations and S.A.R. Helicopter,” promoted by the Asociación Socorro Andino Peruano (S.A.P.).
Field experience in the volcanic terrain of Ecuador—featuring glaciers, crevasses, and extreme conditions—will allow for the exchange of technical knowledge to be applied in future operations and training within Peru.
