Huaraz in the Global Spotlight: “Expedition Ecuador 2026” Launched in Collaboration with the Russian Mountaineering Federation
Huaraz is not just Peru’s trekking capital; it is solidifying its position as a strategic epicenter for international mountaineering. This Tuesday, December 23, the city will host the official press conference for “Expedition Ecuador 2026,” an initiative that blends Peruvian expertise with the technical prowess of one of the world’s mountain superpowers: Russia.
Organized by the Asociación Socorro Andino Peruano (SAP), this expedition goes beyond sports, serving as a bridge for technical cooperation and specialized mountain rescue.
🏔️ The Challenge: Three Volcanoes, One Goal
The expedition involves climbing three giants of the Andean range:
Rucu Pichincha (4,696 m)
Cayambe (4,600 m)
Chimborazo (6,263 m) – The closest point to the Sun from the Earth’s center.
🤝 International Cooperation: Peru and Russia United
What makes this journey unique is the partnership with the Russian Mountaineering Federation. This strategic alliance aims for:
Technical Exchange: Advanced rescue protocols in extreme environments.
Capacity Building: Joint training between Peruvian rescuers and Russian experts.
Local Positioning: Validating Huaraz as the premier preparation hub for international expeditions.
“In the mountains, there are no borders. There is only respect, technique, and responsibility for human life.” — Eric Raúl Albino Lliuya, President of SAP and Expedition Leader.
