International Alliance & Specialized Insurance
Asociación Socorro Andino Peruano (S.A.P.), in strategic alliance with Global Mountain Rescue S.A.C., is developing the first project in Peru aimed at integrating a network of associates and professionals specialized in high-mountain search and rescue, strengthening national and international cooperation to respond to emergencies in hard-to-reach mountains.
As part of this initiative, and thanks to collaboration with professional rescuers from Austria, an important cooperation has been established with Bergrettung Tirol (Tyrolean Mountain Rescue), a prestigious non-profit organization in Austria consisting of over 4,500 highly trained volunteer rescuers whose mission is to provide assistance and rescue individuals who have suffered accidents or are in danger in the alpine zones of Tyrol.
Within the framework of this international cooperation, we consider it essential to promote the implementation of specialized insurance for accidents, search, and high-mountain rescue, designed to cover operations in extreme and hard-to-reach environments.
Our proposal includes coverage to protect mountaineers, guides, and rescuers on expeditions exceeding the altitude of Nevado Huascarán Sur (6,768 meters above sea level), the highest mountain in Peru, guaranteeing adequate coverage for rescue operations anywhere in the Andes Mountain Range.

1. Insured Persons
The insurance covers all sponsors who register for the insurance after paying the affiliation fee.
Coverage is also extended to the spouse or partner living at the same address as the insured person, as well as children under 18 years of age.
2. Purpose of the Insurance
The insurer provides coverage in the event that the insured person suffers an accident or finds themselves in an emergency situation in the mountains or on the water and requires rescue, whether injured or uninjured, or when the recovery of their body is necessary following a fatality.
- Insurance coverage is worldwide.
- The insured sum for rescue expenses is €30,000 per person.
- Insurance coverage is subsidiary (secondary). This means that benefits will only be granted when no other insurance company (social security or private insurers) is obligated to cover these expenses or actually covers them.
- There shall be no right to compensation if the rescue services have been provided or were required to be provided free of charge to the rescued person.
3. Start of Coverage
Insurance coverage begins the day after payment of the affiliation fee and ends on December 31 of the same calendar year.
For payments made during the months of November and December, coverage will be valid until December 31 of the following year.
4. Rescue Expenses
Rescue expenses are considered to be those costs that become necessary when the insured person:
a) Has suffered an accident or emergency in the mountains or on the water and requires rescue, whether injured or uninjured.
b) Has died as a consequence of an accident or emergency in the mountains or on the water and the recovery of the body is necessary.
Rescue expenses comprise duly justified costs for:
- The search for the insured person.
- Transport to the nearest accessible road.
- Transfer to the closest hospital to the accident site where they can receive the necessary medical attention.
Search costs will be covered up to the limit of the insured sum, regardless of whether the search was successful or not.
5. Air Sports
Accidents occurring during the following activities are also covered:
- The use of aeronautical equipment.
- Parachute jumping.
- The operation of aircraft.
Accidents are not covered when suffered by the insured person while traveling as a passenger in:
- Motor gliders.
- Ultralight aircraft authorized for passenger transport.
6. Sports Competitions
Unremunerated participation in sports competitions is covered by the insurance.
Accidents resulting from the following are not covered:
- Remunerated sports activities.
- Training sessions conducted for professional or remunerated purposes.
Remuneration is considered to exist when the insured person receives compensation greater than simple expense reimbursement.
Also not covered are:
- Motor sports competitions.
- Performance trials.
- Rallies.
- Training sessions and routes related to such competitions.
7. Important Information
The preceding information contains only the essential aspects of the Rescue Expense Insurance.
Insurance benefits are provided exclusively by UNIQA, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the framework agreement signed with Mountain Rescue Tyrol.
